You may join a class after the starting date. Please let us know when you'd like to start lessons.

Examinations:
JLS does not ask students to take a level check test before registration. Students are also not tested with examinations during courses at JLS. Students are permitted to join the class where he / she feels most comfortable. However JLS recommends all students to take JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test), which is held at University of Zürich once a year (always the first Sunday of December) . The JLPT certificates are recognised worldwide.

Language used during lessons:
Although JLS Webpage is written mostly in English, lessons for beginners are conducted mostly in German when there are only German speaking students. If there are some non-German speaking students, lessons will be conducted in English, too.
NB: JLS director & head teacher Yoshiko Märki can speak both English and German well (with Swiss accent. :-D). So please do not hesitate to contact Yoshiko Märki in German if you don't feel confident in English. Her mother tongue is, of course, Japanese.

Thank you.
